From VCA to Towson: The Unstoppable Journey of Tyler Schmidt For 15 years, from 2005 to 2020, Tyler Schmidt attended VCA. For about half of that time, he was competing for VCA's basketball teams. A true force on the court, Schmidt’s legacy is defined not only by his impressive stat sheet but also by his relentless work ethic and passion for the game. During his time playing basketball at VCA, Schmidt racked up an extraordinary list of accolades. He was a 2x Conference Player of the Year and a 3x Team MVP. His talent extended beyond the conference, earning him the title of Indiana Christian School Player of the Year and leading his team to an Indiana Christian School State Championship. His name remains etched in the VCA record books as the all-time leader in points, rebounds, and assists. As well as being the first VCA basketball player to eclipse 2,000 career points. When asked about his most memorable moment, Schmidt recalled his senior year showdown against Calumet New Tech. "Dunking on someone vs. Calumet New Tech my senior year," he said, a moment that perfectly captures his competitive fire. Now in his sixth year of college basketball at Towson University, Schmidt's journey is far from over. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Olivet Nazarene University and began his master's studies at Valparaiso University last season. Looking to the future, his goal is clear: to play professional basketball overseas for as long as he can. Schmidt’s advice for the next generation of VCA athletes is a reflection of his own career. "If you want to be successful in college, you have to play with a chip on your shoulder," he shared. "You have to play harder than everyone, and it’s key to work hard to gain a competitive advantage in every aspect of your life off the court—good habits, diet, lifting." This advice isn’t just about sports; it’s a philosophy for life that has taken him from a standout high school player to a collegiate star with a professional career in his sights. Tyler Schmidt's story is a powerful example of what can be achieved with dedication, hard work, and a competitive spirit.
